BriefExplanation
Avocados originated in Mexico. Its rich volcanic soil and perfect weather grow the greatest avocados on Earth. But nobody knew that. And nobody had heard of the brand Avocados from Mexico.
So this TV commercial—which aired during the biggest football game of the year—goes back to the beginning of time to tell the origin story of avocados in a way that no football fan could forget.
The spot opens as every plant and animal on Earth gathers at the First Draft Ever. The air is tense with anticipation as the Commissioner approaches the podium to announce where each living creature will spend eternity. It looks just like the National Football League Draft (NFL) but set billions of years ago. As each country’s pick is announced, NFL commentators Jerry Rice and Doug Flutie weigh in on the choices.
There’s clearly only one place for avocados to go: Mexico.
EntrySummary
We told the story of Avocados from Mexico during the Super Bowl because it’s not just the biggest football game of the year or a huge day for advertising—it’s also the day more avocados are eaten than any other. And we want all those avocado-loving football fans to choose Avocados from Mexico the next time they make guacamole.
Because this was a Super Bowl spot, we tailored it to football fans by parodying the NFL draft. The draft is an annual televised event where teams select newly eligible players, and sports analysts comment on those choices. We turned it on its head, even using real NFL draft commentators to debate the merits of kangaroos, sloths and avocados.
