BriefExplanation
Set to ‘I’ll be home for Christmas’ by Bing Crosby, the film shows a father and daughter innocently texting back and forth whilst driving home for Christmas. The devastating effects of text driving are highlighted when we see a haunting image of the father’s fatal accident and heart-breaking scenes of the young girl’s grief at a roadside memorial.
The day after launch it was being talked about in every national newspaper and TV station in the UK.
America’s biggest morning news program, The Today Show, created a 5 minute segment around our film and message of 'Don’t Text and Drive'.
EntrySummary
The number of casualties caused by drivers distracted by their phones has increased by 24%. And 51% of drivers can’t bring
themselves to turn off their phones before driving.
With texting and driving at an all-time high, a hard-hitting film was needed to remind people to keep their eyes on the road and not on their phones.
This was especially relevant during the Christmas period when over a billion miles are travelled on UK roads.
Solution
Everything in the film, apart from the actors and their phones, was created in CG. To try and create a piece of film that has an emotional story at the heart of it in CG was a big ask, but the level of detail and the effect created in post production was of such a standard that the viewer is drawn into the story, and they start to watch the events unfold as if they are watching a high production value set, rather than something created in CG.
The technical challenges of getting our cast to interact with an environment that wasn’t there on the day of the shoot is testament to the skill of the director, their acting ability, and the level of visual effects that bed the characters into their environment.
