Execution

We used a mixture of extremely close microphone recordings of pieces of metal, glass, printed circuit board, etc to reflect the macro photography. The sounds were then manipulated and bespoke technological sounds made using synthesisers within the logic platform.

In order to convey the amazing quality of the phone's speakers, the engineer used orchestral sweeps and synth sequences that built to a wide stereo crescendo resulting in a "wash" of beautiful sounds. Every element within the mix was created within the studio.

Outcome

Youtube hits to date are: 780,636 views. Overall average minutes viewed: 1m 06

Strategy

We wanted to create an extraordinary & emotionally engaging film that befits a luxury technology brand. It’s aim was to be delivered in a way that is English, vibrant & bold with the product the pivotal focus. Our brief was to unlock desire for Vertu to make it an indispensable luxury item. The role for communications was to position Vertu as luxury logic; our audience doesn’t settle for ordinary in any area of their lives so why do it with the item they use most? Our strategy was to tell extraordinary product stories in an extraordinary way, rooted in England where Vertu is handmade. Naturally therefore our idea is ‘Extraordinary’.

The basic principle behind the sound design for the Vertu spot was to reflect the macro photography used by the director and DOP to express the intricacies, craftsmanship and fine detail of each individual phone.
