Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The 90 second hand-drawn animated film narrated by Emma Thompson, tells the story of a girl and her encounter with a displaced young orangutan, (Rang-tan) who appears in her bedroom, gently drawing her attention to the global issue of rain forest destruction for palm oil. Rang-tan illustrates the impact of this on her home teaching the girl about products in her room that contain palm oil, like shampoo and chocolate. It sheds light on the fact the orangutan population is facing extinction whilst deforestation for palm oil shows no sign of slowing down.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Climate change being high on the global agenda explains the timing of the campaign and aimed to raise awareness with as many people as possible. The film also carried a key message to global companies that, after a decade of promises, they must uphold their commitment commit to help slow this process down.

Tell the jury about the elements of sound design.

The sound design had to be thoughtful to the poignant narrative by creating a complimentary sound mix of music, spoken word and sfx. There were three parts to the brief; firstly to create a natural environment for the opening scene, switching dramatically to a darker, distorted world for the rainforest flashback and then back to the bedroom scene for the conclusion. A mixture of disciplines were used to make a rich sound bed that was built from scratch; bespoke Foley, authentic orangutan reactions and enhanced sound design used to compliment what was happening visually.
