Describe the creative idea

The beauty of technology is to create human connections. Liverpool fans crave nothing more than connecting closer to their beloved club. Standard Chartered, Liverpool FC main partner, used technology to bring a forgotten hero, Bob Paisley, to today’s fans, showcasing connection through innovation.

Project Stand Red preserved the legacy of Bob Paisley and brought him to 2019 for a whole new generation of Reds fans. We modelled Paisley’s speech patterns, allowing us to build conversation in today's world. Paisley interacted with today’s players & Jürgen Klopp through episodic short films including the ‘making of’ to showcase the banks innovation.

Our cross-platform content delivered different stories of Paisley’s in alternative mediums; The short films shared never heard before conversation, his presence was felt in all 19/20 football shirts, a historic AR exploration of his Boot Room was created, and the Bank commissioned a permanent statue of Paisley at Anfield.

Describe the execution

Project Stand Red preserved the tremendous legacy of Bob Paisley and brought him to 2019. Using cutting-edge technology, AI voice modelling, CGI visual effects, and hundreds of hours of research Standard Chartered worked closely with Bob Paisley’s three surviving children to respectfully recreate his character and allow him to once again walk the Anfield pitch telling untold stories.

We robustly developed Bob Paisley’s personality and modelled his speech patterns, allowing us to build conversation in today's world. However there were only grainy images and flashes of low-res footage of Bob Paisley as Manager of LFC. And his nickname, humble genius, is an understatement for the lack of speech he ever shared. The craft in this project was creating Bob Paisleys presence; the visual effects of his facial expressions and personal gestures laid to live-action and matched to the recreated audio mumbles. The live-action filming captured in 4D space, allowed experts to overlay a 3D modelled CGI face onto our character.

Our cross-channel storytelling wove from physical to digital and back again. The tech savvy target audience seated across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, welcomed the unique untold stories and explored at length.

The episodic short films allowed relevant and powerful conversations with fans. The experiential website invited a deep dive into the Banks innovation behind Project Stand Red. The AR Boot room gave fans a virtual experience discovering thousands of LFC Secrets. Bob Paisleys signature was stitched into all 19/20 Liverpool shirts globally, driving powerful awareness.

We started Project Stand Red to educate fans of today but as the project evolved, we were able to ensure Bob’s presence will be felt for a lifetime; with a permanent Bob Paisley statue erected at Anfield.

The powerful storytelling gave a deep story to the banks innovation that fans loved.
