Background

In 2009, Usain Bolt broke the 100m world’s record and made history. But behind this incredible mark, there is a lot of sweat, training and effort. In 2019, ten years later, we want to tell this story, showing an angle that few people know. A tribute so outstanding as the world's fastest man.

• Project scale and volume : We created a book, not a normal book, a book as fast as the fastest man in the world, a flip book with his biography in it. The book was delivered during an event to a hundred of athletes, fans and race influencers. Best of all: Usain Bolt himself came to the event April 4th, 2019,

Describe the creative idea

?Puma was one of the first brands to believe in the athlete Usain Bolt, even before he became a legend. To celebrate the decade of Usain Bolt's 100m world record, we created a biography that shows all the training and effort behind that mark. But Bolt's biography could not be an ordinary book. It had to be as fast as him. It’s a biography but it’s also a flipbook, showing an animation of 9.58s, recreating the iconic race. Literally, step by step, the whole story behind the race.

Target - 100 athletes, fans and race influencers.

Describe the execution

• Design elements and their integration: we created a biography with 224 pages, each one representing a frame of the race. The pages have a totally different design between them. The design chosen to illustrate the book uses black and gold elements, which helps creating a striking visual effect with a touch of sophistication due to the importance of the tribute.

List the results

The 9’58”biography sets an important moment for the brand and Bolt. It reinforces the historic relationship between the two, and helps show Puma's relevance as a partner and supporter of high-performance sport by sponsoring the greatest man of all time. The book was delivered to select 100 influencers and racing fans, closely linked to the race universe. In addition, the tribute was delivered personally to Bolt. The best way to celebrate and perpetuate the biggest feat in athletics track history.
