Write a short summary of what happens in the film
The film is a musical tribute that follows a twelve-year-old child on his difficult journey to undergo heart surgery a thousand kilometers away from home. Though accompanied by his parents, this is a journey he must take alone. He leaves behind friends who love him, as they bid him goodbye with a modern rendition of the Egyptian classic “Ya Mesafer Wahdak” (translation: lonesome traveler) by legendary composer Mohamed Abd el Wahab.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
The Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation (one of Egypt's most renowned facilities founded by Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub) has only been operating in Aswan, a city deep in the south of Egypt. Meaning that most patients coming from different Egyptian cities must endure the pain of long travels for checkups and surgeries.
Baring in mind that travel in Egypt is an extremely tough process on its own, due to poor transportation infrastructure, excessive heat, and the need to use multiple modes of transportation. On both a physical and an emotional level it is especially tiring for a patient suffering from heart disease.
This is no longer the case, as a new hospital will be opening in the heart of Cairo (capital of Egypt in the north). With this film, we call on viewers to donate in order to help complete the new heart center.
