Overview

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

Egyptian idioms that indicate the will to help others are notorious for sounding incredibly exaggerated (ie. I’d go throw hell for you, I’ll carry you over my head, etc…,” to the point where it's hard to take them seriously. This film, however, tells the story of 5 real heroes that actually follow on their sayings, and literally carry it out word for word.

A doctor who never took a dime from any of his patients.

An average young man who jumped into a burning building to save a family.

A man who gave his entire house to sick people waiting for their turn at the hospital.

48 struggling cab drivers who drove ill people to hospitals free of charge.

A whole village carrying food for miles to feed a whole train who couldn't break their fast on time.

These stories prove that with Egyptians, actions speak louder than words.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

All the idioms and expressions used in the film are colloquial Egyptian figures of speech that are used every day to invite someone over or show willingness to help out, and they are never meant to be taken literally. They are an integral part of our speech, and we just use them out of politeness and courtesy when the conversation calls for them. We even have a term for these types of expressions called “a boatman’s invitation,” as a man on a boat would invite those far away on shore to come over, even though all of them understand they won’t be able to accept his invitation.

Sometimes we never think about the true meaning of what we hear…

Until we see these meanings come to life.

When you see a doctor who lived and died for the people..

“There is a saying that goes, No one should live only for himself.”

We learn what it really means that you cannot put a price on the value of a human being.

“I promised my father on his deathbed to never charge a patient in need.”

“Mashally.. the doctor of the poor laid to rest.”

And when we hear about a man who risked his own life to save a family,

It will make us stop and think the next time we hear “I’d go through hell for you.”

“I equipped this apartment with seven beds.”

Then we see a man whose home was always open so that no patient would ever have to suffer and wait on the streets.

“All I care about is for them to feel comfortable in my place.”

“ill carry you in my heart” becomes a tangible feeling

When 48 cab drivers choose to drive people to hospitals free of charge saving hundreds of lives...

They’ll come to mind every time we hear the words “you just name it.”

And when you find out that a whole town rushed to feed a train full of passengers...

We come to understand the meaning of “if the world doesn't carry you ... I will”

Every day in Egypt we learn that actions speak much louder than words…

And we are one of a hundred million Egyptians proving it every day.
