Cultural / Context information for the jury

The new visual identity for the University of Zagreb’s CRTA, a Regional Centre of Excellence for Robotic Technology, was developed by using an innovative AI technology. The new look evolved from AI-processed students’ handwriting leading to various data sets as inputs for the final design.

Tell the jury about the art direction.

INTERSPECIES COLLABORATION

At first the institution’s name-writing was assigned to RONNA (a dual-arm robotic neuro navigation system). But RONNA was not able to write. A bunch of students were then called to rescue who wrote the name of the institution in their own handwriting, under the watchful “eye” of RONNA, upon which RONNA developed its own handwriting. The designer played with RONNA’s unique handwriting, brain surgery trajectory, and other data. After all, that is what humans are good at. The identity was created as a result of collaboration between real and artificial intelligence, and successful integration of a new species into the working environment.

Input: Students handwrite the word

Output: Artificial intelligence’s visual feedback

Design elements: Point, line and plane interpretation based in AI feedback

Final output: CRTA’s identity and key visuals
