This film is about Leon Bridges’ incredible ascension from dishwasher to headliner, but it was not by luck or accident. He worked as a dishwasher while riding his back to any open mic or open stage he could hustle is way on to. His song “Smooth Sailin” was the perfect juxtaposition to the singer’s journey and rise to stardom that was anything but easy, and was woven into the narrative with Leon singing many of the lyrics as he transitioned through the stages of his life.

By sharing the real story of a musician and Squarespace user, Leon Bridges, we set out to inspire a new audience to put their talent on display on Squarespace. While his rise has been fast, his journey was anything but "Smooth Sailin'" as he went from dishwasher to headliner. Like many paths to success, it started with a leap of faith, continued with hard work, and was filled with people helping him along the way. For Leon, finding a bigger stage online helped him find a bigger stage in the real world.

Squarespace has always been about providing the best creative tools to help people build their brand online. We were tasked with reaching musicians, one of its core customer bases. With the GRAMMYs as our launch moment, we wanted to do something not only authentic to music but also true to the brand. So we found an artist, who was rising to fame (he was nominated for Best R&B Album at the GRAMMYs) and had already built his site on Squarespace - Leon Bridges.
