CampaignDescription

‘My Mother’s Wing’ is a Virtual Reality film commissioned as part of the UN's advocacy at the World Economic Forum in Davos to state and business leaders, offering a unique perspective into the challenges and heartbreak of living on the Gaza strip. Exploring the cycle of Israeli / Palestinian violence through the lens of a single family, ‘My Mother's Wing’ shows how mothers spread love and support even in the most difficult circumstances. Through this, they are the architects of a peace and stability in a society that has deprived them of it.

Execution

The film’s premiere was held in conjunction with the United Nations International Ebola Recovery Conference and proceeded to travel the globe in the UN’s effort to fight donor fatigue on the world’s most pressing issues. The piece also launched on the agency app and was part of the Sundance Film Festival's official selection at the New Frontier exhibition.

Outcome

The UN has raised roughly $3.8 Billion in support of the Millennium Campaign’s humanitarian endeavors since launching their VR initiative and become a beacon of hope, spearheading an empathy movement which has led to an increase in international support to the affected countries, with financial commitments to assist strategies for recovery.

Relevancy

The mission of "My Mother's Wing' is to create awareness and empathy for dire global situations and events. The film has been seen in over 40 countries and translated into 15 languages and has helped raise billions in direct support and funding. In addition to fighting donor fatigue, the film has helped usher the United Nations into the modern age, showing how utilizing a new medium like Virtual Reality can make the organization as impactful as ever before.

Strategy

In addition to the VR film playing at numerous global conferences like the World Economic Summit, the film has traveled to smaller scale grassroots events, being shown to people on the streets in various cities who feel inclined to donate. The film is also viewable online at our agency's website, YouTube, Facebook and on the agency app.

Synopsis

Many people in the Gaza Strip live their lives in the shadow of constant conflict. With no chance to leave, little opportunity at home, and weak control over their own affairs, families have built and rebuilt ordinary lives, far from politics and power. The United Nations wanted to continue using Virtual Reality to draw attention to the devastating 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict and create a call to action unlike ever before.
