Background

Beats faced a unique set of challenges when launching its Powerbeats Pro and Solo Pro products. How do you sell a product that’s still in development? How do you experience a product that you can’t yet hold, or even hear? Moreover, how do you do it at scale, make the experience personal, and reach an audience from sell-in to the sales floor. Introducing Tempo: a suite of digital tools designed to educate and train a global audience on Beats’ most cutting-edge products — taking rich, interactive storytelling to a new level.

Describe the creative idea

Beats needed an innovative way to transform the training experience for their global retail employees and enable them to become product experts overnight. Tempo is designed for learners of all types, bringing complex product features to life in an easy-to-understand digital format. Most importantly, Tempo is scalable, and has trained a global salesforce in more than 20 languages worldwide.  

Describe the execution

Tempo is a highly dynamic, universal retail training platform. From meticulously rendered 3D models, to custom motion graphics and an immersive, engaging narrative, Tempo simulates the experience of holding and using the Beats products without relying on the physical products themselves. With more than 60 minutes of interactive 3D learning modules, Tempo gave employees an opportunity to play and familiarize themselves with the new form factors and controls. In order to evolve the experience of the product, we created lifestyle narratives with over 15 minutes of scripted live action content to articulate product features. 

List the results

Beats saw 2.13X increase in presales of Powerbeats Pro.

Tempo has been used to train over 600,000 Apple Store employees, worldwide in 20+ languages, redefining the way Beats and Apple engage, connect, and educates it’s a global audience — fundamentally changing how Beats and Apple bring new product initiatives to market.
