BriefExplanation

"The More Things Change" tells the story of young men and women, who over the last one hundred years, were accepted to our military academies and chose to serve their nation. The film depicts various decades from the 1890s up to present day and that progression also shows the cultural evolution the United States underwent over that time period. Once we see historical reenactments of receiving an acceptance letter to these military academies, the film switches gears to allow the parents of current cadets and midshipmen to express what that moment was like and how the decision affected them and their children. This brings in a raw and real emotional reactions that go beyond what our scripted scenes can express.

ClientBriefOrObjective

The immense challenge of the production design on this film was finding locations, props, and wardrobe to represent each of the various decades depicted. Everything from 1890s Western American farmland, to a 1960s urban diner required different period appropriate costumes and set dressing to really convince the audience that we were taking a glimpse at different points in American history.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of all was finding a working steam engine train that would be the focal point for the ending of the whole film and really sell the audience that this was a historical scene from the 1890s. Stock footage wouldn't have achieved that same effect, we needed to see our actors in that environment and need to produce that scene ourselves.

EntrySummary

The Army-Navy football game is a contest between the football teams of the US Military Academy and the US Naval Acadamy that has been played for over one hundred years and is perhaps the most heated and storied rivalry in American sports. Although the players on that field will one day be on the same team and serve their country together, for that one day of the Army-Navy game their are no greater enemies. So, the Army-Navy game is about so much more than just a football contest, it is about the young men and women who choose to spend the next decade of their young lives serving and potentially sacrificing their lives for their country. They don't play for glory, money, or super-stardom. They play to honor the values of sacrifice, honor, and commitment.
