BriefExplanation

This film plays on the idea that no matter how experienced you are - either a 9 year old beginner in India or the 11th time World Champion in Fiji; in surf as in technology, no two waves are the same and there are always new challenges to take on.

Execution

“Every Day is Day One” plays on the idea that no matter how experienced you are - a first timer or a veteran, in surf there are always new challenges to take on. In other words, we are all beginners.

We needed to convey this idea in our soundtrack.

That’s why we decided to create a new version of David Bowie’s “Absolute Beginners”.

The lyrics were not enough. The music also had to transmit all the fears and tension that a surfer has when facing something new.

We commissioned the re-recording to composer J. Ralph of The Rumor Mill, who created that fragile debutant music mood we were looking for.

Performed by pianist Paul Cantelon and singer Angela McCluskey with her unique growly voice, the soundtrack of “Every Day is Day One” take the film to a deeper and grittier level of emotions.
