Set to the classic score Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Strauss, we chart in high definition and in super slow motion (400fps) a big moment in ten young babies lives: doing a poo.
It’s a moment every mum and dad can recognise, the moment when baby’s focus is on nothing but the task at hand, it encapsulates all the weird, wonderful, adorable and funny poofaces babies pull when they’re doing their business. We tell a story, from the initial build up, to the moment itself, right to those moments of ecstatic relief that follow.
It’s a moment that a new mum and dad may fear. Knowing that soon after the pooface a clean up is needed.
But with this film we’re saying: parents, Don’t Fear The Mess! A clean baby is just a Pampers wipe away. The big deal for baby is a tiny job for mum and dad.
Execution
Casting babies is always tricky. You can’t direct them or ask for a performance, so when we needed to capture unique poofaces, there was only one way to get them, wait for the babies to really poo!
We brought over 50 babies (and their parents) into initial casting sessions. The brief was simple: “expressive babies that pull really funny poofaces”.
But being confident that the babies were going to deliver on set was a bigger challenge. We asked parents to send in home videos of their babies pulling poofaces, interviewed them about how often and when their babies pooed, and made sure we knew when babies were about to go, by using parents advice and creating a schedule of estimated ‘poo times’ we gave ourselves the best possible chance of capturing glorious poofaces.
After carefully reviewing each casting video, we worked with the client to find our 16 babies to shoot.
Thankfully our choices were hugely successful. Over the two day shoot, we got some incredible footage from 10 out of 16 babies. Each baby delivering their own unique “take” on a pooface. Delivering some excellent, hilarious and adorable performances which we can now see in the final pooface film.
