Write a short summary of what happens in the film

A young man is having difficulty wrapping his head around reality, as his girlfriend goes through numerous ‘upgrades’, flipping through faces, ages, genders… Eventually, he comes to love the new version of his girlfriend just the same and realises that change can be awesome.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

It’s common for people to feel uncomfortable with changes. This is especially true with Thai people, who hate changes when it comes to things and apps that they’re already used to. Anytime anything they’re familiar with changes, they would react negatively and complain.

Provide the full film script in English.

(A man is packing his suitcase for a trip, with his girlfriend helping.)

Girlfriend: Packed your underwear?

Boyfriend: Yes.

Girlfriend: Passport?

(Suddenly she changes in appearance to be a completely different person. He is stunned.

Before he could react, she changes looks again.)

Girlfriend: Don’t forget your passport.

Boyfriend: Who are you?

(And… she changes again.)

Girlfriend: I’m Fern.

Boyfriend: No

(for every line, she changes her appearance again and again…)

Girlfriend: Yes.

Boyfriend: You don’t look like Fern.

Girlfriend: Right. I don’t.

Boyfriend: So are you Fern?

Girlfriend: (stares in silence)

Boyfriend: Who…

Girlfriend: Fern.

Boyfriend: But not this face.

Girlfriend: Right. But I’m Fern.

Boyfriend: Why change?

(this time she turns into a man.)

Girlfriend: I cannot change?

Boyfriend: I want the old Fern.

(she changes into another middle age man)

Girlfriend: So it’s all about the looks?

Boyfriend: No. But I want the old one.

(she changes into a middle age woman)

Girlfriend: It’s still me. Everyone does plastic surgery nowadays.

Boyfriend: I don’t know this look.

(she changes into a little girl, who’s too short to be in frame, she asks in a challenging tone)

Girlfriend: Still using Windows 95?

Boyfriend: No

(girlfriend keeps changing in looks…)

Girlfriend: Remember the first version of Facebook?

Boyfriend: No.

Girlfriend: Remember MJ’s old face?

Boyfriend: No.

Girlfriend: Still listen to his songs?

Boyfriend: Yes.

Girlfriend: See? You will get used to the new look.

Boyfriend: So you will keep changing your look?

(A skinhead girl stares at him in silence)

Boyfriend: Please stop.

(Now his girlfriend in another look is playing nunchucks)

(He turns around and hides)

Boyfriend: Stop.

(Twins appear)

Twin 1: It is our basic right…

Twin 2: to change our looks.

Boyfriend: Stop.

(girlfriend keeps changing)

Girlfriend: We’ve been talking too long.

Boyfriend: Stop the firmware updates.

Girlfriend: You forgot your allergy pills.

(she throws a pack of allergy pills in his face)

Boyfriend: This is scary. Please stop.

Girlfriend: I’ll remind you to take it.

(girlfriend keeps switching looks quickly)

Girlfriend: Water bill. Electric bill. Credit card bill. And transfer money.

(boyfriend is so weirded out and tries to take a photo of her)

Girlfriend: The shoes you like are on sale. And buy retirement fund. That sushi place you like… I booked ahead last year so you can go on Monday.

(boyfriend looks up, touched and surprised)

Boyfriend: You did that for me?

(girl keeps changing, now a muscular woman, tall and strong)

Girlfriend: Of course. Let me take your luggage down.

(she zips up the suitcase, lugs it over her shoulder and clumsily bumps into the door frame)

Muscular girlfriend: Grab your passport. I will drive you.

Boyfriend: You can drive? Since when?

Muscular girlfriend: Since now. I’m new version.

Boyfriend: So the old version is gone forever?

Muscular girlfriend: Still using Windows 95?

(boyfriend finally realises his girlfriend loves him all the same, nothing important has changed… he starts crying)

Boyfriend: Thank you, Fern.

Muscular girlfriend: I love you all the same.

(camera pans over the smiley couple in a photo with the original girlfriend from the first scene, leading to a new photo of the boyfriend and his now muscular girlfriend… stops at the phone on the counter with old K PLUS interface, changing into the new one)

End super: Change Is Awesome
