Write a short summary of what happens in the radio or audio execution or campaign.
In a text-savvy culture, South Africans don’t phone their close friends and family anymore .
Texting is the norm and it has basically taken on a language of its own with symbols and emojis. But like most languages things often get lost in translation. Even though emoticons and abbreviations make conversations quick, easy and fun they’re not always as effective because recipients misinterpret the symbols.
Heart eyes, thumbs up, yellow hearts, what does it all mean!?
The idea in each script was to highlight everyday conversations to show our audience how confusing texting can be, especially when it comes to emojis and how easily they get misinterpreted. Things get lost in “textlation”, so avoid the confusion and awkward moments all together by simply making a phone call.

Gogo’s an exotic dancer
VO: It starts with some emojis from Buhle’s Gogo, who believes she’s found the perfect man for her granddaughter.
(Ping sound)
VO: Gogo announces that she’s found THE one. She sends: Guy in tuxedo, double hallelujah hands, dancing girl emoji.
VO: Buhle’s concerned. Dancing. At Gogo’s age? She texts back: Worried face, medical symbol, exclamation mark.
VO: Don’t be picky Gogo thinks. He’s not a doctor, but he does ok. She replies: Money bags, money bags, smiley face.
VO: She’s getting paid. To dance? Buhle replies: Exclamation mark, cringe emoji.
VO: Typical. The man’s a catch. Gogo sends: Man emoji, fire emoji, double thumbs up.
VO: Buhle’s stunned, but trying her best not to imagine Gogo wearing a tasselled bra. She replies: Single thumbs up.
VO: And so, while an excited Gogo starts planning the wedding, Buhle wonders how she’s going to explain granny’s new hobby to mom.
VO: Things get lost in textlation. Make a phone call instead. Dial *147# and buy voicebundles from R29.
