Cultural / Context information for the jury
This spot is based on a hit movie from 1978 called “Grease.” Soda shops were places young people enjoyed hanging out in during the 60’s and 70’s. A soda shop is where a lot of iconic scenes from the movie took place.
Tell the jury about the ambitions & challenges of production process.
This shoot was rife with challenges and difficulties, but everyone wanted to make sure we paid homage to the Grease musical in the right way. Firstly, the owners of the Grease IP were hyper specific about what was going to be allowed, so that pushed the creative into certain places and often needed several layers of sign-off. There was a lot to shoot, as you can see from the spot, but we were tasked with doing so with only 10 hours of the main talent’s availability and that needed to incorporate dance choreography with 20+ dancers. Because it was an international brand like Pepsi, the sets had to fall into a specific lane to satisfy both the Grease requirements and the Pepsi branding. A fine line to walk but ended up beautiful.
