BriefExplanation
“The Quest” celebrates Nespresso’s commitment to sustainability as well as their continuous quest to produce excellent coffee.
The revelation “The Dream of Life” by English philosopher and writer Alan Watts perfectly encompasses this philosophy. It was used as a backbone for the film to tell the stories of three people whose destinies intersect: a coffee producer and his family, an engineer and a customer who travels between a Nespresso boutique and her Parisian apartment. Their distinct but intertwining universes come together through seemingly separate endeavors which leads to the catharsis of savoring the perfect cup of Nespresso.
Although “The Quest” - through its aesthetics adopts a tone close to a documentary - minimalist and unassuming - it still strongly conveys a sense of otherworldliness and wonder - to create a surreal state associated with profound dreams and visions.
What was once a dream, now becomes reality.
EntrySummary
Nespresso needed to showcase their commitment to both excellent coffee and sustainability while showing the people and processes involved.
The target market was broad in terms of age: 25 to 60 and was specifically for the French market.
It was mandatory to capture the various intricate steps in the coffee production process as well as show real people in real locations to build credibility, emotion and truly introduce viewers to how Nespresso works both in their factories, their farms, their boutiques as well as their laboratories.
The true challenge was how to unite this worlds into a single aesthetic and philosophy. The use of real people in real locations - doing their job - further builds a foundation of credibility. While the use of bold aesthetics, surreal music, and the philosophy of Alan Watts - creates a
dream-like aura true to the subject.
