Write a short summary of what happens in the film

Our film is a three-act anthem, following the universal struggle of athletes as they train. From up-and-comers to international superstars, we worked with them to show their authentic and unique workouts. Through it all, the camera stays locked off in profile, highlighting the secure fit of Powerbeats Pro. In the first act, the athletes prepare for the challenges ahead, their movements are quick and deliberate. In act two, the pace quickens, their motion becomes more dynamic and intense, accelerating until finally it’s unsustainable and we reach the breaking point. The action stops. The music slows. Our athletes are beset with pain and exhaustion. But they don't stay down for long. Just as suddenly as it stopped, the action ramps up and into act three: Triumph. With Powerbeats Pro our athletes are unleashed. Motivated by their music, they run faster, work harder and reach the climax of their workouts.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Beats has always been rooted in music. So choosing a track for the film was more than just finding something that fit the action. While “Saw Lightning” might feel like an unexpected choice for the brand, it actually checks every box that Beats looks for in a track, playing a significant role in the film. Additionally, the track was released to coincide with the campaign launch. This alignment allowed us to use the brand’s platform to promote the track and the artist’s platform to promote the campaign.

Tell the jury about the choice of music track.

For Beats this work moved into new territory, bringing the product to the literal center of the frame. We needed the perfect track to score the motion and energy of the spot, while maintaining and reinforcing Beats's position as a leader in music culture. To do this, the track had to be a character in the work, one that could match the ebbs and flows of the spot in all its forms. And since the film showed so many different athletes in so many different scenarios, we needed a track to match, with a variety of elements and instrumentation. We chose "Saw Lightning" by Beck, co-written and co-produced by Pharrell, which achieved everything we wanted.
