Overview

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

In a special reunion of 30 ROCK, Liz and Jack must bring the gang back together to help President of NBCUniversal (and former Page) Kenneth sell a year of ad time in one advertiser meeting. Liz enlists everyone except "canceled" Jenna Maroney, who gets wind and “Zoom-bombs” Liz’s replacement interviews to force her way into the reboot.

When the team tells Kenneth they're on board, he reveals the whole thing was a trick. He’s hurt that they’ve been ignoring his quarantine Zoom parties, so he got them on a call just to turn them down.

Following the disaster, Liz and Jack hatch a plan and, with the rest of team, “Zoom-bomb” Kenneth’s big meeting. Meaning to apologize, instead they tease him. This reminds Kenneth of the good old days -- having friends who are honest with him. They make up thanks to the magic of television.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

30 ROCK: Acclaimed and beloved American television series depicting the wacky behind-the-scenes antics of a show resembling Saturday Night Live. Stars the show's head writer Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and network exec Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), along with a rainbow of comedy talent portraying cast and crew.

UPFRONTS: Traditional large-scale events put on by networks to showcase the new season's lineups and new programs to advertisers. Talent, execs and salespeople attend and work together to entice the advertisers to invest in their new content "up front", i.e. before it premieres.

NBC PAGE: Kenneth, President of NBCUniversal in the special, used to be a "page." This is an elevated internship offered by NBCU giving participants a chance to work across all parts of the company

TGS: The sketch series akin to Saturday Night Live "reuniting" in the plot of the special

Tell the jury about the ambitions & challenges of production process.

The challenges became the major factor shaping our ambitions. COVID-19 immediately broke all traditional methods of working, but also provided opportunities: to redefine what an upfront event can be; to reach more people; and to collaborate with iconic talent for something unique and exciting when people need it most.

Obviously, production was an incredible challenge with quarantine. We shot in dozens of locations with skeleton crews adhering to strict health protocols. Our writers/performers/producers/technicians abandoned egos for the thrills of problem-solving in real time. It was joyful for all to be working, creating, and doing something NEW.

Performers provided much of their own hair, makeup, and props. Much of the crew did their jobs remotely. Creatives and producers worked furiously to incorporate a real advertising pitch inside an imaginary entertainment universe. Ultimately, we came together as a family to deliver a wonderful episode of 30 ROCK for the world.
