Burberry’s 2020 Festive film is evocative of the tumultuous year that we have all had to endure and follows as a group of friends brave the elements and navigate through adversity together; illustrated by large blocks of ice falling from the sky. The viewer is transported from the everyday to the extraordinary, allowing them to explore a new fantasy. It is a celebration of community, creativity and the voices of the future in a unified world. Exploring the freedom to go beyond; the dream-like visuals illustrate the importance of working together and supporting one another throughout these unprecedented times. It highlights how empowering it can be to embrace everyday life, with all its ups and downs and continue to search for positives even when the outlook appears bleak. The film’s spirit of youth breeds hope, freedom and curiosity, with an energy of pure joy and optimism for the future.

Please tell us about how the work challenged / was different from the brands competitors

During the key commercial holiday season, when retail brands traditionally rely on religious connotations and product focused campaigns to push sales, Burberry broke conventions and went against the grain, instead the focusing on and celebrating the people within our communities. This film celebrates the everyday people and doesn’t use celebrity or gimmicks as a hook. It was important to us that we brought people together and provided a moment of joy at a time that was so difficult for many on a global scale. This uplifting film not only supported young creative and diverse talent through the visuals, but also by employing a variety of creative cast, giving them a platform to showcase their work during a challenging time.
