Burberry’s 2020 Festive film is evocative of the tumultuous year that we have all had to endure and follows as a group of friends brave the elements and navigate through adversity together; illustrated by large blocks of ice falling from the sky. The viewer is transported from the everyday to the extraordinary, allowing them to explore a new fantasy. It is a celebration of community, creativity and the voices of the future in a unified world. Exploring the freedom to go beyond; the dream-like visuals illustrate the importance of working together and supporting one another throughout these unprecedented times. It highlights how empowering it can be to embrace everyday life, with all its ups and downs and continue to search for positives even when the outlook appears bleak. The film’s spirit of youth breeds hope, freedom and curiosity, with an energy of pure joy and optimism for the future.

Please tell us about the cultural insight that inspired the work

This film provided the opportunity to express our brand through actions as well as words. It was important that we created something that was in tune with how the world was feeling at the time. A celebration of community and creativity, bringing together different creative spheres and juxtaposing figures from fashion, dance and sport. The uniting element throughout is youth and imagination. The span of figures also finds an echo in society as a whole, as well as the communities encouraged by the youth initiatives Burberry is supporting in partnership with Marcus Rashford MBE – allowing people to achieve their full potential, to explore their dreams and to always go beyond.
