BriefExplanation

The TVC is part of the ‘There Will be Stories’ campaign.

The playful anthem ‘Loungin’ features a specially rerecorded lounge performance of the classic Guns-n-Roses track ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. In the spot, we’re guided through The Star by a charismatic lounge singer and his piano on wheels, while a series of story fragments unfold in the background. The TVC is part of the ‘There Will be Stories’ campaign.

Execution

To capture the surprising and often unpredictable experience one might find at The Star, Sydney’s most Vegas like entertainment venue, we approached Guns and Roses for the rights to re-score ‘Welcome to the Jungle’. The original sentiment of the classic track fit perfectly with the irreverent decadence of the venue and our story, but in order to also capture the kitsch like lounge character of the casino experience we re-scored the track with new instrumentation, a small two piece band and our lounge singer’s crooning voice.

The idea wasn’t to fully change the track, as we paid our dear share for the rights to use it, but to create a more suited version of it that blended our character’s performance qualities with that of the original track. The way he actually performed the track, had to be part of the fabric of the finished piece, and as a true lounge singer his own characteristics were essential. The result we believe is both familiar and surprising and helps create a character of decadence and irony the film wouldn’t be the same without.
