BriefExplanation

We reveal the origins of the Easter bunny, as a hare and a hen fall in love at a party in the woods, get married, and give birth to a special rabbit that lays eggs. We see him grow up in a loving environment, only to be mocked and bullied at school by other children, because he looks like a rabbit, but does something only chickens do: laying eggs. Feeling alone and outcast, he decides to run away and meets a human girl in the forest. He then takes the human world by storm and becomes a star, ultimately known as the easter bunny. Despite his fame and success, he feels lonely without his family. So he returns home on easter, as he realizes that nothing is compared to the warmth of family.

EntrySummary

Literally everybody in Germany knows the easter bunny: a rabbit that brings colored eggs on easter and hides them in your garden. The weird thing is, though: nobody knows any background for this. Who is this bunny? Why does he do that? It’s a big part of German and European culture. And oddly enough, it’s been a mystery for many centuries. That’s why in our film we finally reveal the origin story of the easter bunny. A touching coming-of-age-piece that talks to children as much as it reaches adults – and the child in all of us.

ScriptInEnglish

It’s nighttime deep in the woods – and a party is in full swing: otter, frogs, pigs...all kinds of animals are dancing and having fun. We focus on a group of hens in the middle of it all. They look around, chat – when suddenly one of them looks at something or someone off screen.

Cut to a hare turning around to camera. She sees him, he sees her: it’s love at first sight.

Cut to the two of them kissing, bathed in romantic moonlight. Then we fade into a wedding kiss at daytime – the hen is suddenly wearing a bridal gown.

Cut to the outside of their home: a tree in the woods. As the camera draws closer and closer to the warmly lit windows we cut to inside – and see hen and hare looking down at an egg. Suddenly the egg shell cracks and a cute animal is looking up to them. The two parents exchange loving looks. Suddenly two rabbit ears pop up: it’s actually a baby bunny!

His parents lift him up and hug him lovingly. Then cut to the three of them celebrating little bunny’s fourth birthday. He blows out all the candles on his cake.

Cut. On his first day of school, the parents say goodbye to their rabbit son. He hops off, turns around one last time to wave goodbye and then runs to school. As he turns away his parents look a little worried...

Cut to a classroom under open sky. Different animals are sitting there as pupils, the teacher is an older hare. Our bunny is raising his hand to answer a question, when he is suddenly hit by an acorn thrown at him from behind. The teacher is not amused and lets his stick come down onto the bunny’s table. Thinking he has made a big mistake our bunny gets extremely nervous...and suddenly he lays an egg!

The whole class is laughing – even the teacher points at him laughing hysterically.

We cut to the bunny walking home through the dark forest. He is obviously heartbroken, his head is hanging low.

Suddenly two classmates of his – a pig and an otter – jump out of the shadows scaring him to death! He falls to the ground, lays another egg and runs off home.

Cut. He runs inside his parent’s tree, panting. His parents, the hen and the hare try to ask him what happened – but he just storms off into his room.

Cut. It’s night. Our bunny is sitting in front of his bed – devastated. When his parents cautiously open the door to his room the next morning all they find is a clolourful egg lying on their son’s bed.

Cut. We see our bunny walking aimlessly through the forest – when suddenly the skyline of a human city appears. Our bunny is hypnotized by the amazing sight. But suddenly he hears a strange noise and jumps into the bushes.

A little girl comes running into frame – and while she doesn’t see our buny, she sees the colourful egg he left behind as he fled into hiding.

She stops, turns around and there he is hiding behind a bigger leaf. She stretches out her hand in a friendly welcoming gesture– and he steps out of the bushes.

In quick cuts we see his stunning rise to fame in the human world: newspapers spin into frame – he is on every cover. Cut to him living a rabbit’s dream – in a bed of carrots. Finally we see him surrounded by microphones at a press conference. Flashlights go off, all eyes are on him. Suddenly he seems to realize something profound and looks very sad and lonely.

Cut to his parents, watching TV, as they suddenly jump up and hug each other: it’s their son! At a press coneference! He is alive and doing well!

Cut. The door to their house swings open and he is standing in the frame. His parents come running and all of them hug. Cut to the three of them enjoying a beuatiful Easter meal out in the garden, as our hero rabbit gestures wildly, telling them his incredible story.

Cut to a chart:
