For YOMIKO, the calendar is much more than a year-end gift to our clients, partner companies, and employees. It is also a concrete expression of our CSR. It answers the question – how can we contribute to a better society through communication. In the past, our award-winning calendars have tackled a variety of themes such as eco-consciousness and wildlife conservation. This year our goal was to make the people more conscious of potential dangers and disasters, and to arm them with information to face them with confidence.

Execution

Normally a calendar is something people look at every day and throw away sheet by sheet once a month. We focused on this behavior and framed our topic in form of “what if” questions, for example, "What do you do if big earthquake happens?". We put the question on the front as a reminder, and the answer on the back. At the end of month, instead of wastefully throwing the month away, the sheet is folded origami style and becomes a handbook filled with easy-to-understand plain text and nice illustrations for everyone to enjoy and learn from.

Outcome

Winning DESIGN LOTUS silver at ADFEST 2015, the response to the calendars was very positive. When asked, recipients indicated that they especially appreciated the originality of the “waste not, want not” concept of a calendar that transforms into a book. Creating a daily presence in the minds of clients and partners, the calendar not only fosters deeper understanding of the YOMIKO’s unique identity and creative strength, but also expands business opportunities. Above all, it imparts information 365 days a year and beyond that may save lives in a country where natural disasters demand awareness.
