The movie expresses qualities invisible to the eye: “the spark of inspiration in the researchers”, “the passionate heat of new businesses” and “the power of innovation”. Actual explosives were ignited to create a fireworks-like explosion, which was then captured on camera. Absolutely no computer graphic effects were incorporated in the completed film.

In Japan, fireworks and black powder have been used to celebrate, uplift spirits and ward off bad fortune since ancient times. Together with the event theme of “EMPOWER POSSIBLE”, this explosive expression captures our hope to break minds and spirits free from the global confinement of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is an approach to art in Japan called the aesthetics of subtraction”. With explosions and fireworks as the motif, elements in the image were “subtracted” to a minimum, and the qualities which we desired to express: “the spark of inspiration”, “the passionate heat”, and “the power of innovation” were allowed to emerge and stand out.
