Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

In this film, a shirtless Swedish boat captain interacts with one of his crew aboard their ship.

This is an authentic piece of Swedish content, made at some point in Sweden’s past, that originally had absolutely nothing to do with the online shopping app, Klarna. The Swedish dialogue is about something completely different than the English subtitles - which we edited and rewrote into hard-hitting ads for Klarna. In truth, we have no clue what is happening in this film because it’s all in Swedish. But - in our reimagined version - these two lovely people are having a discussion about the wonderful benefits of paying in four easy payments with the online shopping app: Klarna. It is very unlikely, however, that this is what they are really talking about.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Klarna, the shopping app from Sweden, faced the challenge of launching in America. Klarna was trusted in Sweden, yet completely unknown in America and up against the world's largest competitors. Fortunately, 91% of young American’s perceive Sweden to be a progressive and tech forward country.

So, we borrowed the positive equity of an entire country and launched “Swedish For Smooother Shopping,” turning absolutely anything Swedish into hard-hitting ads for Klarna.

From Swedish cinema and TV shows, to commercials, soap operas and more - we transformed 50 years of authentic Swedish film content into over 60 new films by rewriting the Swedish dialogue with reimagined English subtitles about how great shopping with the Klarna app is.

The team comprised multi-language researchers to clear all of the varied content.

To source the most charmingly Swedish content, the team watched hundreds of hours, spanning 50 years of Swedish Cinema, TV shows, movies, soap operas, commercials, games shows and musical performances.

Editing and creating these new films was an innovative live exercise.

No scripts. No shooting boards. No translations. No understanding of what the original film was about. Taking something in a different language, transforming it by reimagining, rewriting and reediting the Swedish content into a humorous commercial for Klarna, highlighting the app’s most popular feature - Pay in 4.

More than any other project we’ve ever worked on, our editor was a complete creative partner and instrumental in turning such an electric mix of historic Swedish content into modern social entertainment for a new millennial American audience.
