BriefExplanation
The entire film was shot on location in Mongolia, featuring “a hundred 12-year-old children” and “a hundred horses”, whose group performance describes the racehorses running toward the Japan Derby. “The birth of the next generation star” to lead the horse racing world, is compared to a Mongolian girl “overcoming challenges to become an adult”, to portray the power to grow and nobility of challenging in a dynamic scale.
EntrySummary
“Japan Derby” is a G1 race to decide the No.1 horse amongst the three-year- olds, and is considered to be one of the biggest races organised by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). It is an once-in-a-lifetime event for the horses, and only 18 out of 7000 can compete in the race, deciding the 'next generation star'.
Implementation
Extra special attention was given to the casting to depict faithfully the importance of the aspect of the ‘young child’ in the theme of the ‘Japan Derby’. Mongolia was chosen not only for its breathtaking locations but more importantly for its large cast of children who actually grew up riding and feeling as one with their horses. The emotional process of becoming the next generation star illustrated in documentary style by the hundreds of children and horses was truly only possible in Mongolia. This magnificent moment capturing when life as a child takes on a new meaning as an adult.
