Living off welfare is so common that it is celebrated in the greatest salsa hit of all time: “No Hago Más Ná” by El Gran Combo. The largest bank in Puerto Rico, Banco Popular’s success depends on the island’s economy. So, to help propel it in the right direction, they convinced El Gran Combo to rewrite history by rewriting the lyrics of their classic song, this time with a completely opposite message.

It might sound incredible, but it’s lyrics translate to thisIt’s so good to live like this,just eating, sleeping and not working.The tune is called “No Hago Más Ná” which means ‘I do nothing’ and it’s performed by El Gran Combo, the most famous Salsa band in the world. Banco Popular, the largest bank in Puerto Rico, convinced El Gran Combo to re-write the lyrics of this classic song. This time with a completely different message.

SONGVO: El Gran Combo transformed their ode to laziness into an ode to work: It’s so good to live like this,always willing to work.The tune quickly reached the top of the charts, turned into a symbol of Banco Popular’s brand, and became the country’s most popular song. As DJs included it in their standard rotations, each time the song played meant 3 minutes of free publicity for the bank.
