Write a short summary of what happens in the film
In this fast-paced, fast-cutting film scored by a high-tempo track, we tell the story of the NHS (National Health Service) from its inception in 1948 right through to the modern day and beyond. Cutting between historical shots and present-day footage, we give the viewer an insight into the inner workings of this extraordinary institution, and the scope of pioneering & critical work the NHS carries out across hundreds of different roles every day - and has done for over seventy years. The film is an honest portrayal of life in the NHS: the every-day struggles and successes, brought to life with real NHS workers across a multi-disciplinary team. Throughout, the film is narrated in verse to relate in emotional terms everything the NHS is.
The film is hosted on YouTube and there is no intention for it to be taken down in the foreseeable future.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
The UK’s ‘National Health Service’ (NHS) is the largest healthcare system in the world that is free at the point of use. It employs over 1.3million people, putting it in the top five of the world’s largest workforces, alongside the US Department of Defence, McDonalds, Walmart and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
Nurses are the backbone of the service and, with doctors, make up the majority of the workforce.
