Why don’t polar bears feel the cold? How do snakes hunt at night? How do bats find their way in the dark? Animal tricks can teach us a lot, which is why bionics inspires so many innovations. By analysing natural phenomena, automobile construction engineers are learning how to build lighter, more aerodynamic vehicles. Since this branch of science is easy to emotionalise, Mercedes-Benz chose it as a vehicle to show kids that research can be fun. In an appealing and approachable exhibition called ‘Copycats Welcome!’ Mercedes-Benz reveals how much we can learn from the animal kingdom.
The research vehicle NiQ takes children on a fascinating expedition to uncover the secrets behind natural phenomena. How do polar bears keep warm? NiQ never rests until it finds a technical solution. With its walk-through interior and interactive exhibits on legs, wheels and snout, NiQ brings the complex field of bionics to life. Nine colour-coded theme animals help children find their way around. By touching, trying and comparing, visitors find out what tricks and tips NiQ has picked up from frogs, owls and other species. At the research table, gripping audio stories bring the expedition to life once again.
