Write a short summary of what happens in the film

We created an animated story where a kid is left behind from his peers when his jetpack runs out as a metaphor for getting left behind in the real world. Strangers (in this case animals) see his predicament and help ‘top up’ his jetpack, so he can join his friends in the sky. The spot ends with the line “Power their potential”.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Underprivileged kids in Australia, can get left behind academically and socially, making it difficult to fulfil their potential.

These ‘data poor’, kids often find it hard to keep up with things going on, which affects their studies and contributes to them feeling disconnected.

Optus created a new feature on their app which allows anyone to donate some of their unused data to help those who need it most. To help raise awareness of this Donate Your Data initiative, we created an animated film that showed how a little empathy from a stranger, can help a kid keep from being left behind.
