Despite a rise in American gun violence and mass shootings, the country’s largest grocery store chain, Kroger, still supports a US law that allows people to openly carry loaded firearms in its stores. (the ‘Open Carry’ law)

“Scooter” highlights Kroger’s existing store policies, comparing what’s not allowed inside its stores against the absurd reality of what is: loaded guns.

These radio ads are all actual calls to real Kroger stores.

Resulted in generating 360,000 petition signatures and a national survey now shows 83% support for Kroger to prohibit guns.

MELISSA: Good morning, this is Melissa, how may I help you?

CUSTOMER: Hi, my daughter just got this new scooter that I can’t get her off of and I’m wondering if I can bring it in the store with us.

MELISSA: Um, there’s liability issues of- with that and the safety and concern of our customers is foremost.

CUSTOMER: She won’t let the thing go, right. And I just—

MELISSA: The poor thing, she loves this! (LAUGHING)

CUSTOMER: (LAUGHING) She does, she does. And I mean—

MELISSA: Awwww, oh goodness. So as far as riding, it – no.

CUSTOMER: But like, people are allowed to bring in loaded weapons…into the store, right? I mean—

MELISSA: Yes, that’s correct. That is the state law.

CUSTOMER: You’re saying I can’t bring in a scooter with pink tassels, but I can bring in a gun if I have a permit, ya know, just...

MELISSA: Yeah, exactly. But, you know, like I said, I can’t change those kind of things, so...

CUSTOMER: Yeah.

MELISSA: (SIGHING) Yeah, yeah.
