BriefExplanation

Hollie McNish is the UK's Slam Poetry champion. Her spoken-word performances, featured on the BBC and at the Glastonbury music festival, encourage women to think critically about body image and find the beauty in themselves. And Dove agrees. Our brand mission is to make every woman in the world feel beautiful. So for Mother's Day, we commissioned Hollie to write and perform this poem. What better way to inspire real women to find their beauty than through the words of a real mum who's found it in herself?

ScriptInEnglish

FVO: If we watched their lips’ smile, singing the same lullaby they’ve sung a thousand times. And their mouths read repeats of their baby’s favourite story lines

If we watched their arms wrap round babies’ backs in cradles made from pats and palms. Their chests now a pillow with a heartbeat keeping squashed cheeks warm

We might realise how beautiful our mothers’ bodies are.

If we watched their thighs stride down streets, pushing pushchairs praying toddlers sleep. Or the tiptoes of their feet as they sneak in to tuck in kicked off sheets.

The frown lines and flushed cheeks as they try to swerve those checkout sweets.

When all their body longs for is one hot cup of tea. We might realise how beautiful a mother’s skin can be.

If we watched their laps gallop horses. Their backbones arch in climbing frames.

Hands lead them to their first school day. If we watch their lips moving forward

To seal their children’s dreams with one more kiss. We might realise how beautiful a mothers’ body is.
