BriefExplanation

At the center of this documentary video is the personal story of a pair of real life surfers—father and daughter--who have surfed the Ventura coast for as long as they can remember. Their natural environment means everything to them and they are fierce about protecting it. Verizon’s Networkfleet technology is one way the city is able to protect its environment for these surfers and all the residents of Ventura. The video interweaves the story of the father and daughter surfers and the story of Networkfleet® technology, showcasing the natural beauty of Ventura throughout and the genuine enthusiasm of its residents as they preserve the environment while engaging in real life activities.

EntrySummary

Ventura is a surfing community. We felt that if we could tap into real people from this community we could tell a more compelling story than if we relied on traditional dramatization.

We casted throughout the city of Ventura for an intergenerational pair of real surfers who were also dedicated environmentalists. We kept everything as natural as possible, capturing our duo in their actual surfing environment during the time they regularly ride the waves. We relied on informal interviews to reveal their authentic thoughts about surfing, their relationship with one another and their environment in order to provide a compelling framework for our Networkfleet story. For our VO narration, we cast environmentalist and Academy Award nominated actor/writer, Ethan Hawke.
