BriefExplanation

Samsung and the ASP celebrate the growth of surfing worldwide and remind us that out on the waves, every day is day one.

The film launches with the 2014 US leg of the ASP World Tour, featuring pro-surfers Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, Gabriel Medina, Mitch Crews and Johanne Defay. The first time you hold a surfboard, the first time you ride a wave, the first time you get barreled, the first time you win a world title. It doesn't matter where you are from or how good you are. Every day is day one.

Execution

Our project was incredibly complicated, finding and following waves in multiple countries is difficult enough, doing that with a film crew with on land and on water departments adds an additional layer to the complexity. Athlete and crew safety always had to be a major consideration as we dealt with large surf and complicated surf breaks in many scenes. We had to also work with the ASP to find shooting times during an ASP tour event in Fiji, a country with little to no film resources. We had to work with an ever evolving shooting schedule which changed with weather patterns and athlete availability. We had to source and use the best camera gear for underwater and on land filming so as to get seamless cinematography. In what is believed to be a world first for the tech, we trialled and used a Red Epic Dragon Camera underwater with anamorphic lenses. Despite all of the challenges we managed to pull it off and achieve this epic film.
