In Guatemala there's no restrictions regarding sports drinks. Most of these

drinks strategically focus their communication in all kinds of sports and

their benefits.

CampaignDescription

Our sedentary routine starts from youth… spending all day sitting in school; all afternoon sitting doing homework, and the rest of the day sitting in front of a screen. Therefore Gatorade, has reached an agreement with teachers and schools in Guatemala to change the sedentary routine of children, introducing a new task in the school syllabus: “SPORTS HOMEWORK”. A task that allows teachers to assign Sports Homework to its students, creating an exercising habit just like you create an study habit with regular homework.

Gatorade, being an essential part of athletes' performance, worries about the health of all consumers. Sports Homework is a way to prevent heart diseases, and a method to create exercising habits for kids and teenagers as well as to have a healthier generation. Our target is young people, the future generation of our country. We knew generating an exercise habit today could create a healthier future for everyone and Sports Homework is ideal to accomplish this objective.

Execution

Using smart bracelets’ technology, we created an education app, that allows teachers to assign Sports Homework to their students. Students only have to take their Sports Homework, do what their professor assigned to them, and then deliver the Sport Homework completed next day, getting a grade according to the exercise they did. This helps to create an exercising habit in all students.

Outcome

Human impact:

Sports Homework started in 10 Guatemalan schools and now it’s in process of being implemented in all schools in the country, the Culture and Sports Ministry joined the brand’s cause.

What started as a small project, now is in process of becoming a part of Guatemalan students curriculum. The real result will be to have a country with a healthier population.

Strategy

Gatorade needed to create a connection with their target group trough healthy living. Today, only a small percentage of children in Guatemala realize the minimum required daily activity (40-60 minutes). That´s why Gatorade found an opportunity to be part of the changing habits of the young.

Translation

Physical inactivity has been identified as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality causing an estimated 3.2 million deaths globally. A sedentary lifestyle in young people is very present, fewer and fewer young people make daily exercise, which is a problem for their health. Gatorade, a brand specialized in sports brand, felt the need to help in this cause.
