When you don’t speak the language you feel like an outsider. These films show an Alien learning the local language with the help of Babbel.

The biggest directorial challenge was making this alien feel convincingly non carbon based but still imbue him with a recognizable humanity since the metaphor is that we all feel like aliens when we don’t know the language. So in designing the prosthetics, we made sure the actor didn’t lose his ‘instrument” that he retained his own eyes and mouth.

Developing his language -- a series of shrieks and clicks -- that felt evocative and specific.

Creating shape and flow to the story and trying to imbue it with comedy and pathos.
